Article 5 of the German Basic Law guarantees freedom of art, which is a high value in our democratic society. As current events once again make clear, it is important to continually negotiate what is meant by this and what is not, and which fundamental rights take precedence in which context. On the one hand, theater professionals and other artists depend on being able to practice their art as freely as possible. On the other hand, it is worthwhile to explore the limits of this freedom and perhaps even redefine them to prevent the undermining of other fundamental rights (e.g. freedom of expression, gender equality, etc.). This would also help prevent discrimination and precarious employment and democracy and artistic freedom can be strengthened and protected.
This would also help prevent discrimination and precarious working conditions, while strengthening and protecting democracy and artistic freedom.
Per Quota Stage e. V., in cooperation with the HTA – Hessian Theatre Academy and the Frankfurt LAB, tackles the topic “Freedom of Art – Labor law – Democracy” in a one-day conference.
Artists, theater professionals, leaders, legal and cultural policy experts will shed light on this in keynote speeches, contributions and discussions. They will address the topic from diverse perspectives and consider the tensions between different legal claims and issues of equality and anti-discrimination.
The discursive program is rounded off and supplemented through workshops, artistic interventions, space for personal exchange as well as a raucous party.
Activism costs sweat, effort – AND MONEY!
