„I can’t ignore anything, that’s making me crazy!“
“Angst / Fressen / Männerherzen” is the follow-up production to “Menancholia” by Amaru Albancando, Nora Frizzi Auerbach, Jakob Boyny, and Gil Hoz-Klemme (premiere in 2023 at Frankfurt LAB). Together with the choir of melancholic men, they explored the cultural history of melancholy, the inability to talk about feelings, and tried out new ways of relating. Based on research into generational conflicts with father and son, Vincent Eissing-Boyny and Jakob Boyny, the play development asks the big questions about closeness, responsibility, and solidarity.
Now the choir of melancholic men is back on stage – but with a different cast. Men aged 24 to 70 ponder their uselessness in the face of political and personal crises: the nursing crisis, loneliness, military service, fear of the future, wars, polarization, climate catastrophe, fear of decline. They share a feeling of powerlessness and the desire to make a difference. They do what they do best: make music, dance, tell anecdotes, talk to and about each other. The choir of melancholic men asks itself: What can we contribute in times of crisis and learn from each other? And will it actually be enough?
