At openKOMM!unikationsfabrik, the doors of the “Kommunikationsfabrik” the old factory building at Schmidtstrasse 12 open for visitors of all ages. In addition to music and dance performances, you can also get creative at art workshops, solve Escape Room Challenges and Pixel Games, explore an open ambulance, try kickboxing and karaoke. Discover this surprising cultural venue in Frankfurts west end.

Workshops for families, children, youth and adults: Comicdrawing – Costumes – Painting – Video

Everyone, especially families, is invited to draw comics with Daniel Eyrich, design costumes and dress up in them with Isabell Ratzinger, use paint and brushes with Carolin Trunk, or record watercolor games with an iPad with Martina Wolf. Simply drop by during opening hours on the 2nd floor of the cross-wing. We look forward to welcoming you!

Here you can thoroughly explore a real ambulance. The Malteser team will show you what’s inside and how it’s used in the case of an emergency.

China Box

Installation by Yinfu Gao

Everyone knows the Chinese takeout box: the small cardboard container with a handle and a red pagoda printed on its side, holding rice dishes and fried noodles. This everyday object becomes the starting point for telling stories from the Chinese diaspora. Also, three participatory workshops will take place. Simply drop in.

Performance-Installation by Emmi Esefeld

An artistic sausage factory has moved into the ID_Frankfurt rehearsal center for the independent theatre scene. Here, you can put things hard to digest through a meat mincer – guaranteed vegan. The performance is laid out for 8 visitors at a time and begins at fixed times; our staff will take registrations for the next show on site.

Exhibition of the BA Architecture program of Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences

Bachelor students have developed ideas for what Frankfurt LAB might look like in the future. Their drawings, collages, and detailed models open up possibilities for new forms of producing, presenting, and coming together.

Epoche f International

Final concert of the IEMA masterclass for contemporary music with was coached by artists from Ensemble Modern for prizewinners of German and European youth music competitions.

In the large hall of Frankfurt LAB, young talented musicians explore contemporary music. Sometimes unusual instruments, such as balloons, are also used. There’ll be lots for your ears to discover. Free advance tickets can be reserved online, but there will also be seats available for walk-ins.

Participatory Project by Nastya Dzyuban

You are invited to weave a camouflage net together. Because weaving is more than a technical act: it is shared time, focus, being together in silence and in conversation. A space where art, care and solidarity meet.

Walking Act by the HfMDK Frankfurt

The percussion and dance students of the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Frankfurt invite you to discover the site, movement, and sounds together. The route begins at the Frankfurt LAB and then continues through the building. Come to the starting point or bump into the young artists elsewhere. Follow your ears!

Community Dance

Dance workshop by the Dresden Frankfurt Dance Company for ages 14 and up

Experience and discover the joy of dance! In this introductory workshop, dancers from the DFDC will offer a glimpse into the improvisational methods of Ioannis Mandafounis, artistic director of the company. The workshop invites you to try things out, explore new movement languages, and connect with one another.

Participants aged 14 to 99 are welcome, and we accommodate different levels of prior experience and physical abilities. The workshop can be attended in street clothes – we recommend comfortable clothing and we will be dancing in socks.

In this interdisciplinary lecture performance, the artists research the entwined histories (and the violent disentanglements) of Jewish and Muslim rhythms.

Pionieren – Eine Zukunftsmusik

Participatory installation by Matthias Schönijahn & Constantin von Thun

In a former GDR pioneer camp, mosses, fungi, and algae now live. For several months, they were entrusted with the Basic Law of the Federal Republic of Germany, the European Anthem, and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. What they made of it, what they left behind, is now in the room and invites to be brought to resonance together.

Barrierefreiheit in der Tanzausbildung – Towards Reshaping Dance Education

Workshop with Laura Ahumada García & Hannah Dewor

Accessibility plays an increasingly important role in dance education. Laura Ahumada García and Hannah Dewor, together with other artists with and without disabilities, engage with this challenge. They share their knowledge with you in a movement workshop for people with and without disabilities.

The workshop will include movement and discussion. The movement tasks are adaptable for individual needs. We will provide a retreat room and stimming materials.

Original works by the dancers of the Dresden Frankfurt Dance Company

In addition to the company’s regular programme, many ensemble members work on their own dance and choreographic projects. On the stage of the Frankfurt LAB’s large hall, they offer an insight into their current work. These short shows feature a wide variety — some are nearly finished dance performances, while others are experiments being presented for the first time. All you need to bring is your curiosity! And there is no need to worry if you don’t understand exactly what is happening.
You are welcome to come and go as you please between the showings.
